Morning Worship

Welcome & Announcements

Prelude

Call to Worship - Psalm 63:1–4
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.

Invocation

*Hymn No. 529 - Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

*Confession of Faith - (Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 1)

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?
A. That I am not my own, but belong - body and soul, in life and in death – to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.
He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil.
He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.
Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

*Hymn No. 535 - O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus!

Confession of Sin - (unison)
Almighty and most merciful Father,
We have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore those who repent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O merciful Father, for his sake, that we may, from now on, live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon - Isaiah 53:4–5
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Evening Worship

Welcome

Call to Worship - Psalm 115:1
Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!

Invocation

*Hymn No. 10 - Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Scripture Reading - Revelation 3:1–6
And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars.

I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Prayer of Confession - (responsive)
Lord, your word says love is patient and kind.

But we confess the times when we have been impatient and unkind.

Your word tells us that love does not envy, that it does not boast, and that it is not proud.

But we confess that sometimes we have been envious, and boastful, and proud.

Your word says that love is not rude, and that it is not self-seeking,

But we confess that in many ways we have been inconsiderate of those around us, thinking only of ourselves.

Your word tells us that love is not easily angered, and that it keeps no record of wrongs.

But we confess how quickly we fly off the handle, and how carefully we keep score when we have been wronged.

Your word says that love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, that it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Help us, Lord, not to take pleasure in what is evil, but to always rejoice in the truth of your love. Protect us with your love, Lord, and help us to choose the way of trusting you, putting our hope in you, and persevering in your ways, knowing that love never fails, and that you never fail. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon - Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

*Hymn No. 455 - And Can It Be That I Should Gain

Pastoral Prayer

Sermon

Pastor Moore
