Call to Worship - Psalm 95:1–3
Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
Invocation
*Hymn No. 604 - Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart
*Confession of Faith - (Confidence from God’s Word)
We abide in the secret place of the most High God.
He is our shelter and refuge.
By our faith in Jesus, we receive the Spirit of power, not of fear.
Therefore, we need not fear any man or evil.
Our full confidence is in Jesus.
The Lord is our light and salvation, whom shall we fear?
The Lord is our defense, of what are we afraid?
Our confession is from the Word of God, therefore it will stand.
*Hymn No. 521 - My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less
Confession of Sin - (unison)
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have failed to live as children of God. In the things we have done, and in the things we have left undone, we have sinned against You. Please, O Lord, forgive our sins, we pray, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon - Psalm 51:15–17
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Call to Worship - Psalm 99:1–3
The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!
Invocation
*Hymn No. 100 - Holy, Holy, Holy!
Scripture Reading - Luke 1:5–17
In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord. But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.
Now while he was serving as priest before God when his division was on duty, according to the custom of the priesthood, he was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense. And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense. And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And Zechariah was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”
Prayer of Confession - (unison)
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father,
We have sinned against you and against our fellow men, in thought and word and deed, in the evil we have done and in the good that we have left undone, through ignorance, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may serve You in newness of life to the glory of Your name. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon - Joel 2:12–13
“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.
*Hymn No. 496 - Kind and Merciful God, We Have Sinned
Pastoral Prayer
Sermon
