Morning Worship

Welcome & Announcements

Prelude

Call to Worship - Psalm 145:10–12
All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.

Invocation

*Hymn No. 115 - All Creatures of Our God and King

*Confession of Faith - Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 1

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong – body and soul, in life and in death – to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.

*Hymn No. 535 - O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus!

Confession of Sin - (unison)
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have failed to live as children of God. In the things we have done, and in the things we have left undone, we have sinned against You. Please, O Lord, forgive our sins, we pray, in the name of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon - Romans 8:1–2
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Evening Worship

Welcome

Call to Worship - Psalm 48:1a, 14b
Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised in the city of our God! …this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.

Invocation

*Hymn No. 598 - Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

Scripture Reading - 2 Peter 1:16–21
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer of Confession - (responsive)
Lord, Your word says love is patient and kind.

But we confess the times when we have been impatient and unkind.

Your word tells us that love does not envy, that it does not boast, and that it is not proud.

But we confess that sometimes we have been envious, and boastful, and proud.

Your word says that love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, that it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Help us, Lord, not to take pleasure in what is evil, but to always rejoice in the truth of Your love. Help us to choose the way of trusting You. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon - 1 John 1:8–9
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

*Hymn No. 468 - My Faith Has Found a Resting Place

Pastoral Prayer

Sermon
The Transfiguration
Rev. Matthew Eusey
Matthew 17:1–13

*Hymn No. 498 - Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!

*Benediction

*Please stand if you are able.
