Welcome & Announcements

Prelude

Call to Worship - Psalm 150:1–2, 6
Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

*Hymn No. 26 - Tell Out, My Soul, the Greatness of the Lord

*Invocation & Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

*Confession of Faith - Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 115

Q. Why then does God still have the law preached so strictly if no one can keep it in this life?

A. First, so that all our life long we may more and more come to know our sinful nature, and thus seek more eagerly the forgiveness of sins and righteousness in Christ; second, so that we may never stop striving, and never stop praying to God for the grace of the Holy Spirit, so that we may be renewed more and more after God’s image, until after this life we reach our goal: perfection.

*Hymn No. 663 - O God Eternal, You Are My God!

Scripture Reading - Psalm 84
How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!

Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.

O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed!

For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!

Evening Worship

Welcome

Call to Worship - Psalm 100:1–3
Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Invocation

*Hymn No. 1 - All People That on Earth Do Dwell

Scripture Reading - Jeremiah 20:7–18

Prayer of Confession - (responsive)

How long, O Lord, will we hide our hearts from You?

Instead of bringing our sorrow to You, we pretend we are strong enough on our own.

How long will we wrestle with our thoughts?

Instead of trusting Your steadfast love, we let our anxieties speak louder than Your promises.

How long will we store up sorrow in our hearts?

Instead of crying out to You, we carry burdens You never asked us to bear.

How long will we look for light anywhere but your face?

Instead of seeking your wisdom, we chase after our own understanding.

But You are the God who hears.

Yet we confess that we often doubt Your nearness and question Your care.

You are the God who saves.

Yet we confess that we often rely on our own strength and forget Your mercy.

You are the God who turns sorrow into song.

Yet we confess that we often cling to despair instead of resting in Your grace.

Have mercy on us, Lord.

Look upon us and answer. Light up our eyes. Restore our joy. Lead us from sorrow to song through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon - 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

*Hymn No. 149 - Teach Me, O Lord, Your Way of Truth

Pastoral Prayer - Rev. John Moore

Sermon
From Sorrow to Song
Rev. Cilas Menezes
Psalm 13

*Hymn No. 629 - What a Friend We Have in Jesus

*Benediction
