Prelude
Call to Worship - Psalm 66:1–4
Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.”
Invocation
*Hymn No. 12 - Exalt the Lord, His Praise Proclaim
*Confession of Faith - (from the Westminster Catechism Part III)
We believe God requires of us faith in Jesus Christ, and repentance unto life to escape the wrath and curse of God due to us for sin;
We believe by His free grace we are effectually called, justified, and sanctified, and gathered into the visible church, out of which there is no ordinary possibility of salvation;
We believe that we also are given in this life such accompanying benefits as assurance of God’s love, peace of conscience, joy in the Holy Spirit, increase of grace, and perseverance therein to the end.
We believe we are made perfectly blessed in the full enjoying of God for all eternity. Amen.
*Hymn No. 173 - Praise Him! Praise Him!
Confession of Sin - (unison)
Most merciful Father, we have sinned against You and stand guilty before Your throne. Forgive us the sins of our tongues – for deception and untruthfulness in our dealings with others; for resentment, coldness, impatience, and tempers out of control. Forgive us the sins of our eyes – for impurity in our glances and imagination; for pining after more beauty, comfort, status, and wealth than You have given us. Forgive us the sins of our hearts – for hard-heartedness toward You and our neighbors; for
pride, self-absorption, self-pity; and above all for rebelling against Your Lordship and doubting Your love. Please, Holy Father, kill our envy, remove our pride, melt our hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon - Isaiah 53:6, 12b
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all…. He bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Call to Worship - Psalm 150
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Invocation
*Hymn No. 604 - Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart
Scripture Reading - Matthew 23:1–7, 23–27
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses' seat, so practice and observe whatever they tell you–but not what they do. For they preach, but do not practice. They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.
Prayer of Confession - (unison)
Almighty Father, forgive our sins. Forgive the sins that we remember, and the sins we have forgotten. Forgive our many failures in the face of temptation, and those times when we have been stubborn in the face of correction. Forgive the times we have been proud of our own achievements and those when we have failed to boast in Your works. Forgive the harsh judgments we have made of others, and the leniency we have shown ourselves. Forgive the lies we have told to others, and the truths we have avoided. Forgive us the pain we have caused others and the indulgence we have shown ourselves. Father, have mercy on us and make us whole for the sake of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon - Isaiah 43:25
“I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins.”
