Merciful and Heavenly Father, we confess that when sin wounds our hearts, we so easily listen to the voice of shame. Like Adam and Eve, we try to sew together fragile coverings and hide from Your presence. Like David, we keep silent while our souls waste away. We confess that we often yield to worldly grief, thus feeling bitter over our ruin, isolating ourselves in secrecy, and believing the lie that there is no way back to Your joy and fellowship. Forgive us, O God. Strip away our pride and self-pity. Turn our worldly grief into true, godly sorrow that flees to the cross. Wash us in the precious blood of Your Son, who despised the shame to bring us home to You. Amen.

He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
