Prelude
Call to Worship - Hebrews 12:1–2
since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Invocation
*Hymn No. 498 - Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners!
*Confession of Faith - The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*The word catholic refers to all true believers throughout all ages.
*Hymn No. 561 - Lord, Speak to Me That I May Speak
Confession of Sin - (from The Valley of Vision)
O God, we have no merit. Let the merit of Jesus stand for us.
We are undeserving, but we look to your tender mercy.
We are full of infirmities, failures, sin; you are full of grace.
We confess our sin, our repeated sin, our purposeful sin.
Pollution is deep in our hearts. We go from one hateful desire to the next;
We are full of thorns and thistles; We have little or no fruit.
We are ashamed of what we are in ourselves.
Lord, have mercy! Save us from the love of this world. Let Jesus be seen in us day by day.
Assurance of Pardon - Psalm 32:1, 5
Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered… I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Scripture Reading - 2 Kings 20:12–21
At that time Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. And Hezekiah welcomed them, and he showed them all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his armory, all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them. Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, from Babylon.” He said, “What have they seen in your house?” And Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them.”
Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD: Behold, the days are coming, when all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the LORD. And some of your own sons, who shall be born to you, shall be taken away, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?”
The rest of the deeds of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made the pool and the conduit and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
Prayer of Confession - (unison)
Gracious Lord, we confess that we dishonor you in our words, thoughts, and deeds. Glorying in our own righteousness, we reject you. Turning our faces from you, we desire the things of this world to satisfy us. Please forgive all of our many sins; cleanse the darkness from our lives, and turn our faces and our hearts back towards you. We pray these things in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon - Isaiah 49:13–16
Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! for the LORD has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted. But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me. Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me."
